Earn Freebies with your Klout or Kred Score

Posted by wonghyhelen on July 19, 2012

Many of you may have been using Klout or Kred to check your online influence and popularity. In fact, your Klout or Kred score does not only affect your job, mortgage, and date, but it can also bring you freebies such as free room at a resort and free trial on a class.

For those of you who do not know Klout and Kred– these two websites calculate scores to indicate your popularity and influence online. The average score on Klout is 20/100. If you get more re-tweets and shares on the stories you post about the topics you are interested in on Facebook and Twitter, you will score higher. You can also follow like-minded people to raise your score.

With the use of Klout and Kred scores, companies can find mavens and send them trials more easily because the scores provide a more thorough analysis based on all the social media tools people use. It makes promotion more effective than just reaching out to influential bloggers as what the companies usually do. However, people should not be too obsessed with the scores even if they want to be recognized as mavens. According to 3 On Your Side consumer reporter Jim Donovan from CBS, scores vary every day and people should focus on the long-term growth instead.
