AU MA Social Media

A class blog about social media.

Listening to your users

Posted by bexmoy on June 5, 2013

After months of Pinterest users’ asking the platform to notify you when you are about to pin something that you previously pinned, the platform has finally obliged!

I unfortunately cannot find an announcement of the improvement, however I personally noticed it for the first time this evening, via the web interface. This demonstrates the way Pinterest is getting it right. First, it prepared its users before it made changes to the interface. Second, it incorporated upgrades that users specifically requested.

This demonstrates the ways that social media platforms have transformed their approach over the years. This approach is a vast change from the first time that Facebook made major changes to its user experience without warning.

I doubt significant numbers ever walk away from a beloved platform because of changes, but it can cause a stir on the internet. Pinterest has shown how to make changes effectively.
