AU MA Social Media

A class blog about social media.

Now THIS is when “Likes” equate to dollars

To follow up on one of my recent blog posts detailing how social media just doesn’t cut it when it comes to fundraising, everything I said is completely moot when you’re James Franco– or a very attractive, famous person.

James Franco has launched his own Indiegogo campaign in attempt to fund a series of three fictional films he has written. He isn’t the first celebrity to jump on the crowdfunding bandwagon. Zach Braff launched and completed a very successful campaign on Kickstarter last year in attempt to get his new Garden State-esk film funded. The same goes for Kristen Bell who was utilizing crowdsourcing to help fund a  Veronica Mars movie.

These people don’t need social media to help their campaigns come to fruition. Serving as endorses for themselves seems to be enough. However, they chose to pursue a trend fueled by social media as a way to gain recognition and fundraising, which is an interesting decision for an A list celebrity.

If only all our crowdsourcing campaigns were masked by James Franco’s dreamy looks.. *sigh*
