The Internet’s Best Kept Secret

Posted by rc9530a on June 24, 2013

I would like to dedicate my final blog post to one of my favorite websites on the Internet, and one of the Internet’s last semi-hidden gems (that I hope never becomes all that popular): Reddit. Reddit describes itself as the front page of the Internet, and basically, it is. Almost everything that goes viral or becomes news starts on Reddit eons before you see people blogging about it or news sites picking it up.

Reddit functions as an open forum where posts can be upvoted or downvoted. Users submit a new thread and other users can comment on the thread, and/or choose to vote on it. The more upvotes a thread gets, the closer it gets to the front page of Reddit. The front page of Reddit is filled with the most popular stories of the moment.

What makes Reddit really special are the subreddits. Within Reddit are countless subreddits; specialized Reddit forums for different subjects. Politics, religion, humor, gardening—there is literally a subreddit for anything you can think of, and so many of them are so incredibly helpful. Here’s a list I found of some of the most useful subreddits. Follow the Reddit alien, a let the good times roll. I’m out!
