Posted by paulchronister on August 2, 2014

Some of you are probably in the same situation as me – your summer internship is about to end, you’re going to finish your last class ever in 4 days and will officially graduate with a Masters, and will soon (you most likely are already) be on the dreaded job hunt, the wonderful time where you spend endless hours online searching for jobs, setting up informational interviews, etc. As you peruse the many job board sites out there, don’t forget there are many job opportunities posted on social media. This Mashable article gives some hints as to how to do your job search on social media. Below I list highlight some of the best tips.

Twitter

Search for words like “jobs” or “hiring,” or for the hashtags #jobs or #hiring, and you will get a ton a results on companies that are hiring, or even better yet, the twitter handle of hiring managers seeking talented employees. To hone in more on what you’re looking for, you can search for your desired field and locations as well, like “PR” and “New York City”

Follow away and Tweet often – Follow businesses you’re interested in and like-minded people within your profession, and don’t be afraid to tweet to them either. Businesses and managers from those businesses often share job openings on Twitter.

Facebook

Like pages to stay updated. Companies are likely to post job opportunities in their news feed.

– Make your education and work history public

– Add professional skills – Facebook recently added a professional skills to the “About” section, so add the skills you’ve acquired throughout your work experiences.

LinkedIn

-Despite the obvious connecting with people to build your network, and applying to jobs on the jobs board, there are endorsements and recommendations. Try to get as many as you can to increase your efforts of attracting hiring managers.

Share more – according to a LinkedIn expert, sharing articles/content with your network increased to chances 10 times for getting contacted by a recruiter.

Pinterest

You can get creative and pin your resume on pinterest. There are also pinterest boards you can follow for your career here.
