Under the umbrella of the internet

Thanks to the internet, B2C E-Commerce becomes an important industry in just a little over a decade. In 2013, the worldwide B2C e-commerce sales was 1.2 trillion US dollars. This number will reach over 2 trillion in 2017, 3 years from now.

When online sales grow rapidly, illegal trading is also growing. Since the illegal drug trade website Silk Road was shut down in October 2013, the dark net drug listing has grown more than double from 18,174 to 43,175, widened from four main markets to 23 markets, reported by BBC. Silk Road apparently was the best PR “campaign” dark net drug marketplace could ever possibly have.

Illegal online trading get the same benefit any online trading can get, and even more. Buying dark net drugs is relatively safe and convenient. More importantly, good quality is ensured. “Because of the strong community on the dark net, this (supplying poor quality product) almost never happens. And when it happens, the vendor in question will lose all of his clients.” Said a dark net drug consumer in an interview with the BBC.

Now it is the law enforcements’ job to capture these sites. Like many other cyber crimes under the umbrella of the internet, the “catch me if you can” game is getting tougher and tougher.
