In late June 2014, someone created a fake Tinder account for Edward Snowden and hilarity ensued.

The conversation between Lonely_Ed_ and his unsuspecting matches were shared on Twitter and Instagram. Some people were obviously in on the jokes…

…while others were apparently clueless about current events.

Although the account was humorous, and obviously meant for fun, Tinder took the account down because of the use of a fake identify.

In a day and age where “catfishing” has become a serious issue on social media, it is understandable why Tinder would suspend falsified accounts. Although, I do feel there should be a difference between an obvious joke and someone trying to use a certain platform for manipulative purposes.
